The Shirt

This shirt was only worn during the 2009/2010 season. It holds fond memories for Leeds fans, mainly due to a last day of the season promotion and a certain victory at Old Trafford in the FA Cup.

The shirt is manufactured by macron and is a thick polyester material, similar to the 1993/95 "Thistle Hotels" home shirt. By the 2009/2010 season the same spec shirts worn by the players are sold in the club shop at Elland Road. Identifying a genuine player shirt is tricky and it is mainly down where it has come from and wether there is any photographic or video evidence of it being used in a game. Fortuntely this shirt has a certificate of authenticity, is in an un-laundered state and is complete with a photo of it being worn at Elland Road.

The Season

2009/2010 was a great season for Leeds. Having spent 3 seasons in League One, the lowest in the clubs history, Leeds gained promotion back to the Championship and enjoyed a famous FA Cup victory over Manchester Unted in the 3rd round at Old Trafford.

Folowing the arrival of Simon Grayson in December 2008 Leeds felt like they were moving in the right direction again. After missing out on another play off Final appearance Leeds started the 2009/2010 campaign as favourites for the League One title. With an opening seven victories and a draw it certainly seemed that the pre season billing was deserved. Leeds went on to be top at Christmas.

On January 3rd 2010 Leeds travelled to Old Trafford for a 3rd round FA Cup match against Manchester United. In an unforgettable 90 minutes Leeds showed no fear and tremendous spirit to beat their bitter rivals 1-0 thanks to a great ball from Jonny Howson and a tidy finish from Jermain Beckford. It was no more than Leeds deserved.

Following the 3rd round victory Leeds set about trying to throw promotion away with a sizable wobble of form. Promotion was finally sealed on the last game of the season with a home against Bristol Rovers.

The Player

The shirt was worn by Leeds defender Leigh Bromby. Bromby, a life long Leeds fan, joined his hometown club from Sheffield United in 2009 for an undisclosed fee. Bromby is a centre back but was also used as a right back during the 2009/2010 season.

Bromby wore the shirt on the 10th April in the Coca Cola League One game against Southend United at Elland Road. Bromby completed the 90 minutes as Leeds won the game 2 nil thanks to goals from Max Gradel and Lucciano Becchio.
